Electromagnetism is magic

Magic! Who would not want magic to be real? Call lightning, throw fireballs, communicate with just your mind or move things by sheer willpower. Well, good news everyone, our universe has its own magic system. It is just not the same as in most fantasy universes, but more like magic in RuneScape, where you need runes to cast spells and they are consumed in the process.

Instead of classic magic and mana, our world has electromagnetism and the electric charge. In some fantasy universes, magic is something extra, something supernatural, which interferes with the natural flow of the world. On the other hand, electromagnetism is inseparable part of the real world, which could not function without it. Thanks to it, things have solid shape and can react with each other. Wait, you think that is not magic? How else would you explain when someone can summon lightning by simply swinging a common metal staff during a storm? Or that they rub their coat and then make pieces of paper rise up to their hands? Witchcraft, I tell you!

But, just like fictional mages need their wand, crystal ball or magical ingredients, real mages also need proper equipment to cast proper spells. They are able to weave electromagnetic waves to communicate at great distances or detect objects covered by the terrain using just a simple antenna shaped to the correct mystical pattern. Similarly they can see through solid objects and, with strong enough source, even burn them with rays of pure energy. Would you like to levitate? Magnets make it happen. (Notice the suspicious similarity between the words "magnet" and "magic". Coincidence? I think not!) Illusions are easy – we have screens everywhere showing things that do not exist. Fireballs still need some work, though.

As you can see, if you wish to be a real wizard, who wields the unseen forces of our world, go study electrical engineering.
