Left vs Right

In recent years, the society seems to be more divided than what used to be the norm, especially the American one. Because USA still has a big influence on the rest of the world, its social topics seep into other countries and merge with local issues. The main topic seems to be the political Left vs the political Right and its many related forms – progressive vs conservative, society vs individual, democrat vs republican… There is a surprising amount of people, who hate the other side in the discussion so much that they straight up refuse to talk about anything with anyone, who expresses just a single opinion from the other side. And this is a problem, because when both sides are convinced about their truth and they refuse to talk with each other, then the only solution is violence.

But most importantly, it is all nonsense. These ways of thinking do not stand against each other, but instead they are complementing each other. When something in our society does not work, it is necessary to change it, that is to be progressive. However, when something does work, it should be preserved, so we need to be conservative. Things can not progress indefinitely. Sooner or later, you will find an optimal state, which we can not cross, otherwise we get to some crazy extreme, like laws protecting nature becoming so strict that we can not do anything, which would hurt even a single leaf.
Sure, everyone has a different idea of what is good enough, but this can be discussed and voted on. However, some people do not want to do that. And this is the real problem – the divide in our society is the reasonable vs the crazy and the weak vs the strong. This is nothing new, most probably this was always the case.

The strong people like to have everything their way and they refuse to compromise. Back in the day these were the physically strongest among us, now their power comes from money and influence. It is not unusual to see an opinion that the Left wants to eat the rich, while the Right wants to protect them, but just because a person is an economically Right minded person, it does not mean they must love the rich people. If you like the idea of minimal government and free market, there are plenty of reasons to hate rich people, because they tend to take advantage of their wealth to suppress the competition, and when it is unrealistic for most people to start their own business and compete with existing poorly managed companies, then free market can not function. Similarly, they influence the government and therefore undermine democracy, because their voice is more important than the voice of a large portion of the common citizens combined.
And how do you think most wars are started? Sometimes nations truly hate each other so much that they get up and kick each others teeth in, but usually the reason is just that a few powerful people refused to find a compromise and therefore the common people must suffer.

The crazy people are similar to the strong, except they can not force their opinions onto others as easily, but their opinions are much more nonsensical and harmful to compensate. Be it the crazy progressive ideas like there is more than two genders, that even fictional worlds can not have anything that could be interpreted as racist, or that we must pick people based on gender and race instead of their skills, or the crazy conservative ones like roleplaying games encourages you to worship the devil, that erotic content is harmful or that sexual orientation can be relearned.
On top of that, the people in power are often also crazy, sort of. Narcissism, sociopathy and psychopathy is much more common to see in people at leadership positions compared to general populace. We have a bunch of empathy and guilt free people in charge, and that is why the world looks the way it does.

Do not let anyone push some dogma on you. You can have your own opinion on everything and discuss it with anybody. And all the people wanting to dictate to us, who we can and can not talk to, can go to hell.
