They must be bored, because they have time to spend on unnecessary things like renaming objects named after people, who are considered bad now. For example, the Magellanic Clouds, named after a sailor, who with his men killed a whole lot of natives on their travels. But that was centuries ago, so why should I care? Because he killed people? Will we also rename all the other things named after all the people in history, who ever gave a command for their men to attack? Or does it matter only when non-white people died? Because this kind of thinking just shows, that people still did not get over the idea of racism. If they did, nobody would care. It is nothing new, various groups were hated for one reason or another, but people moved on. Changing long established names will only create confusion. Whatever new name they will come up with, it will not describe the stellar object better, it will just be a different label. Most people probably don’t even know that these objects exist or who was Ferdinand Magellan and what he did.
Wait, my bad, apparently the problem is that Magellan did not discover those clouds. Good thing the Moon is not full of craters named after people who did not discover them.
It reminds me of the incidents, when people were breaking statues of various historical figures, because they suddenly realized, that these figures did something bad during their life. What was the point of that? Should we pretend those bad things did not happen? A statue does not necessarily means we should hold the person depicted in great regard. Criminals used to be punished publicly, hanged for everyone to see. Humanity will not learn from its mistakes, if it keeps forgetting them.
