I have a habit of keeping a desktop background for each game or game expansion I finished. However, not all games have a good background available, especially when considering my requirements. For me, a good background has to be free of intrusive things, like game title or author’s signature, but someone who played the game should still be able to tell from the artwork what specific game it represents. Also, in-game screenshots don’t count.
So I learned how to clean up images. And because most old games have very low resolution artworks I started looking into neural network upscaling.
If you like doing artworks, there are some games for which I could not find any (or at least not good ones). Maybe you could be the one to fix that. These are: Command & Conquer: Yuri's Revenge, Creeper World 2, Creeper World 3, Dave Goes Nutz, GeneRally, Marshmallow Duel Reloaded, Might & Magic, Might & Magic 2, The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon.
Here you can download some of the desktop backgrounds that I modified for myself. They are in 1920x1080 resolution which was the most common one when I started. Where I knew, I added the original author into image metadata. Unfortunately, most don’t have any because I couldn’t find out who did it, and those that have may be incorrect anyway.
